A Good Counselor Is Hard To Find

My Brother in Switzerland

A good man is hard to find, but a good counselor is harder.

If I was in the grocery store, and I overheard someone say, “I have this amazing counselor”, I would spin my cart around, interrupt, and get their contact information.

I don’t think I’m asking for much, I just want Julie Andrews in counseling form. Someone who is all parts wonderful and wise. The english accent, the poise of a former nun - or Queen of Genovia, is not required.

I’ve decided a bad counselor is like a bad boyfriend - they drain your savings and leave you in a state of emotional fatigue.

So I would like someone who feels like a beloved grandmother, but is actually an astutely educated professional. I picture her being just past middle age, with graying hair. Her name would surely be Margaret or Cynthia, and there would most certainly be mints, individually wrapped, on her desk.

I’m going to find my Julie Andrews counselor, she’s out there somewhere. And then I’m going to keep her on retainer for the rest of my life. Or I guess for the rest of her’s. And when she passes, or retires, I’ll have to start looking again…

Sigh.

A good counselor is hard to find.
